On the Other Hand

On her right hand
            Five circlets of silver
Claimed her fingers
            Celtic weavings clasped
Saucy amethyst, healing the soul
            And catching the eye
Soothing gleaming moonstone
To reveal what was to reveal
Tiny green citrine
            To overcome the sadness
Worked weavings of protections, faith
Or frivolous pieces purchased on whim.

On her left hand
            Only four worked bands
Thumb & fingers; silver of course
            more defenses against the pain.
Blue aventurine, more amethyst
More aid – as if they could relieve.

As if they could distract from the pale skin
Left on her barren third finger.
