Sitting During Passage

Sitting passenger seat
Sitting, lights flashing
Flashing, blaring noise
Flashing, hurrying noise
Noise heralding priority
Noise demanding passage
Passage - others giving way
Passage  - granted to hasten fear
Fear, lodged in her heart
Fear they were too late
Late was not a term she wanted to apply
Late. Lost. Passed. Gone. All too final
Final, they arrive at the metal doors
Final destination; unfold the gurney
Gurney swung through metal doors
Gurney flanked by paramedic hands
Hands transferred him
Hands started applying monitors, electrodes
Electrodes attached to lines
Electrodes to tattle the heart
Heart relunctant, worn out
Heart dammed and ready to stop. Again.
Again with the electricity and paddles
Again the pull to the living
Living first, breathing second
Living this second, pulling the next
Next the doctors converge
Next the doctors' call
Call the X-ray
Call the angiogram
Angiogram ASAP
Angiogram right away
Away, the hands flanked him to surgery
Away they led her to wait
Wait as if waiting was an active act
Wait as if waiting would make her ready
Ready? Despite warning she was not
Ready to let go or to fight
Fight the pounding fear
Fight the shock that took her words
Words in those instances had no meaning
Wirds failed to convey the significance
Significance of one lone life
Significance that only ONE matters
Matters that life distills down to one
Matters that life distills down to passaage
Passaage from "child" to "love" to "mate"
Mates - she sits next to him
Later, she will listen to his heart.
